Electric Scooter
As the cost of petrol increases and we all try to do our bit for the environment, it is only natural to be looking at transport alternatives. Electric scooters are a simple yet very efficient way to travel whether you are looking for a way to go to work or go anywhere around the city.
There are many benefits of using an electric scooter. On top of being a sustainable transport mode, e-scooters are also cheap to purchase. Starting at just over €500 and available on the cycle to work scheme, the electric scooters are a simple solution to replacing your city car. In addition, they are cheap to run, saving you on car tax, NCT and insurance.
Compact and easy to store, these powerful machines are ideal if you are living in an apartment or do not have a dedicated space in your office to park a car. Stored safely inside, you will never have to worry about where you left it. Folding into a compact size, e-scooters are ideal for transit from your house to the train, DART, bus or Luas stops to make your commute even easier. The folding aspect of the electric scooters also allows you to bring them wherever you go. Fitting neatly into a car boot, they give you more mobility freedom when you are on holiday.
Electric scooters are also easy to manoeuvre and, their small size makes them perfect to navigate busy streets as you go along pavements, paths and bike lanes.
Lastly, unlike a car, you can enjoy fresh air giving you a great start to the day before you get stuck into your daily tasks. And, we are sure you will agree with us they are fun to ride!

To help you learn a little more about this relatively new mode of transport, we have built a list of common questions regarding the use of electric scooters in Ireland?
E-Scooter FAQs
Can I use an electric scooter in Ireland?
If you're wondering are electric scooters legal in Ireland, the answer is yes. Current legislation is going through the Oireachtas to regulate their use under a new vehicle category (PPTs: Powered Personal Transporters), but, as it stands in April 2022, you can use them as you would do a bike. And like any vehicle, you should follow the rules of the road.
Can e-scooters be used on roads? Can electric scooters go on the pavement?
Due to their slim design, electric scooters can travel on either roads or pavement. However, it is recommended that you use cycle lanes where available. For your safety, we'd advise you to wear a helmet, hi-vis clothing and make sure your scooter's lights are properly working at all times.
Are electric scooters allowed on trains?
Yes, e-scooters can be carried on all Irish Rail services. You are just asked to fold your electric scooter while onboard a train and walk and push your e-scooter while going through stations.
Are electric scooters waterproof?
All Walberg Urban Electrics scooters are splash-proof. It is advised to avoid using your e-scooter on heavy rainy days.
Can electric scooters go uphill?
It might sound like an obvious question, but it is important if you live in a hilly area. And, yes, an electric scooter will push you up the hills. The difference is in the power of the e-scooter. The Egret Ten, with its 500W power, would bring you up the hill faster and with more ease than the XC-1 and its 300W power.
How does an electric scooter work?
Electric scooters work on battery and electric motor. The speed they go out is determined by using the throttle to accelerate. The top speed varies depending on the model.
The battery is charged via a plugged-in charger. We recommend you do not let your scooter charge for longer than necessary to ensure longer battery life.
Can an electric scooter be used manually?
The short answer is yes. However, it will become difficult and tiresome as your electric scooter may resist you.
Which is better, electric bikes or electric scooters?
There is no easy answer to this question. Where the e-scooters are low maintenance and compact compared to the e-bikes, electric bicycles can be a safer and healthier option. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you need help choosing between one or the other, please do not hesitate to send us a quick email at [email protected]
